About Mortgage Owl
Mortgages, explained in plain English.
Mortgage Owl is a free guide for UK homeowners and buyers. We explain mortgages clearly, so you can understand your options and feel confident before you speak to an adviser.
Whether you're buying your first home, coming to the end of a fixed rate or wondering whether to remortgage, we're here to take the confusion out of it.
Why we started.
Mortgages are one of the biggest financial commitments most people ever make. Yet the language is full of jargon, and it's easy to miss a deadline that costs you money, like the end of a fixed-rate deal.
Mortgage Owl was founded by Steve, who is training as a mortgage and financial adviser. He built it to be the straightforward, friendly guide he'd want for his own family.
What you'll find here.
• Plain-English guides on buying a home, managing your mortgage, mortgage basics, and protection and insurance.
• Free calculators, such as our Mortgage Repayment Calculator, to help you work out the numbers.
• A free mortgage reminder, so you don't miss the end of your fixed-rate deal (set one up).
• A mortgage review service, if you'd like someone to look at your options (book a review).
What we believe.
• Clear, not clever. No jargon without an explanation.
• Helpful, not pushy. You'll never be pressured to enquire.
• Accurate and up to date. We check our guides against official UK sources and review them regularly. See our Editorial Policy.
How Mortgage Owl is funded.
Our guides and calculators are free to use. Mortgage Owl may earn money when you ask for a mortgage review and are introduced to a qualified adviser. Some pages may include affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes what we write.
Important information.
Mortgage Owl provides general educational information only. It is not regulated financial advice and does not take your personal circumstances into account. Always speak to a qualified mortgage adviser before making a decision. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
